TEMPERATURE CUT OFF
We are concerned for the safety of all of our athletes and volunteers and so we have established a 40 degree cut off from having the swim be the first event. The decision will be made on Saturday morning based on the projected forecast for Sunday. If the 10:00 am temperature on race day is below 40 degrees at the Alaska Climate Research Center the race will be modified.
If necessary, we will do a reverse order race which consists of a mass run start followed by the bike and finally the swim. The course for the run and bike will be the same. We will mark any areas of heavy gravel or try to sweep the area.
If we have to reverse event order, the swim will be changed to a 300 yard swim where you enter lane one of the pool and proceed to swim 50 yards in each lane then exit in lane six (snake the pool). Your time will not stop at any point during the race, but PLEASE use extreme caution when entering the pool so you don't slip. DO NOT dive when entering the water or jump on anyone who is swimming towards the wall. We will try to have carpet laid down so the pool entrance isn't as slick but again use caution. The locker rooms will be open if people want to change into their swim suits. Please use caution and don't run. If you are going to wear your swim stuff under your run and bike clothes make sure that you don't pile your clothes in the doorway of the pool.
Your time will stop once you fully exit the pool. Below is a photo of what the "snake" swim section will look like.
ICY ROADS
If the roads are too icy or snowed over that we can't safely bike on them, we will do a run and swim. The race will start with a mass run start in which you run the designated race course followed by a 300 yard swim. The swim will consist of entering the pool in lane 1 and swimming 50 yards in each lane (snake the pool). You will exit in lane 6 and that's when your race time will stop. DO NOT dive in when entering the pool, YOU MUST ENTER FEET FIRST.
Please use extreme caution when entering the pool area as the FLOOR MAY BE SLIPPERY. We will try to have carpet laid out and do our best to keep the area clear of debris.
